I called you my home
cos as cliché as it sounds, “home is where your heart belongs”
And mine was with you

I miss being welcomed at the front door with hugs as warm as your insides
Your walls so warm, it melted the ice in my heart

When I was weary from life’s battle, you offered comfort – an instantaneous peace
You offered shelter and protection from these streets

Imagine my distraught when I woke up engulfed in flames
Smoke so smoldering and heavy it clamped down on my chest
Forcing me to wheeze and sneeze till tears run freely
I race out and I barely make it
Left with nothing but my birthday suit I had put on for you the night before.

No time to pick up any belongings
No time to salvage anything that tethered me to you… to us
No time to take it all in one last time
No time at all

Now I stand stark naked
In the dead of the night
Frostbites replace your love bites
All alone in silent tears I cry
I lost my home – the one I so called

I lost everything

I lost myself

I lost my love.
